Looks like a small issue, but it’s big

Posted by mlserafine on Jun 9, 2011 in Uncategorized

I wrote to explain what’s wrong with Big Government and asked Governor Perry to veto the bill that created yet another useless state agency—-this one for breeders—-an agency I’ve dubbed “Dog Protective Services.” Unfortunately, the Governor signed the bill and it is now Texas law. Here is the letter. Read more…

Moving Forward— A Message from Mary Lou

Posted by mlserafine on Nov 7, 2010 in Uncategorized

Many thanks to all who contributed to my Senate campaign with their talent, energy, and treasure. We made inroads into true-blue Travis County with a conservative message of low taxes, deregulation, and parental school choice. Although we didn’t win the seat, that message was sent loud and clear, and I am confident it will have a ripple effect in holding back the Democratic agenda that would have made Texas look more like California—-with more money for politicians, less for families and good businesses.

Serafine Advances “New Wave Republicanism”

Posted by mlserafine on Oct 27, 2010 in Uncategorized

“I am part of what I call New Wave Republicanism. New Wave Republicans believe that the free market is the only thing that will accomplish upward mobility and promote the general welfare. We are not pro-business. We are pro-market. There is a big difference. We are for small government, not big government.

Serafine campaign hits the air waves with “Rookie” ad!

Posted by mlserafine on Oct 26, 2010 in Uncategorized

Two weeks ago, voters were told that the upcoming legislative session was no place for a “rookie,” and that Kirk Watson had the “expertise” needed to confront the issues of the day. We respectfully disagree, and believe it is the “expertise” of career politicians that has put our finances in such a rut.

Today, our first radio ad, titled “Rookie,” will hit the air waves across Austin. We invite you to listen to the ad by following this link.

El Mundo Newspaper Interview

Posted by mlserafine on Oct 18, 2010 in Uncategorized

Q. Why are you running for office and why are you interested in the Hispanic community? What is your opinion of the Hispanic community?

A. I am running because Texas and the nation face huge problems. The Hispanic community would be a large part of my constituency, and I believe the solution to many problems lies in values that are evident in the Hispanic community—personal responsibility and a focus on family, instead of reliance on government; the spirit of the entrepreneur—-with its creativity and innovation; and fiscal conservatism—-not wasting money and resources. These are the values that government should have, and Hispanics have all of these values. American Hispanics will, I believe, help to return this nation to the principles on which it was founded—-the free market, limited government, and personal liberty and responsibility.

Serafine Denounces Wasteful Government Spending

“If politicians such as my opponent, Kirk Watson, were so great at predicting the future, and picking the right industries to invest our money in … they should be on Wall Street managing mutual funds instead of in government, managing slush funds.”
-Mary Lou Serafine

Last Saturday, Mary Lou addressed the Texas Doctor’s Tea Party on the South Steps of the Capitol, below is a text of her speech. Video of her remarks can be found here.

“President Obama said recently that the choice we face now is the choice between fear and hope.

By hope, he means: We hope the government will be around to give us our Social Security. We hope the government will be around to give us our medicine. We hope the government will be around to give us our babysitting service. We hope that by the time we get so dependent on government, there will actually be a government to take care of us.

Serafine on Border Security

Posted by mlserafine on Jul 26, 2010 in Uncategorized

I support policies to increase legal immigration. The purpose of border security is not to stop immigration but to save lives, preserve the rule of law, and provide for orderly, legal immigration. It is a necessary step in resolving the issues surrounding immigration itself and the problem of an ever-enlarging sub-group of residents without legal status.
I support our Texas Attorney General in demanding that the Obama Administration provide border security. This is the responsibility of the federal government. Below is a portion of the letter sent yesterday by Attorney General Abbott to President Obama:

Questions from a Journalist

Posted by mlserafine on Jul 26, 2010 in Gallery, Uncategorized

Candidate Mary Lou Serafine answers questions from an Austin journalist, Greg Gosdin.

1. If the majority of the District 14 population is liberal, how will they
be better served by electing you instead of Kirk Watson?

Serafine: There is a new wave in Austin that recognizes the danger of authoritarian politicians taking money from the people and spending it on bad projects. I am the new wave. Kirk Watson is the old-style, sitting on a throne, telling other people how to live and taking their money through high taxes, high fees, and high energy costs, then wasting the money on projects he happens to choose. The private sector—-private businesses and charities—-would do a better job of spending money for good purposes than politicians such as Kirk Watson.
